The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
