Followers Urge Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who leaped a fence and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney concert in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had gathered in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the popular stage show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of last year in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, winning a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
