Latest Refinery Attack Reveals 'Zero Protected Places in Russia's Far Hinterland'

Ukraine's UAVs have hit the Russian Bashneft refinery in Ufa, located approximately 1,400 km from Ukraine, causing explosions and a blaze, according to a source in the Ukrainian intelligence agency.

This marks the third Ukrainian security service deep strike in Bashkortostan in the recent weeks. These attacks illustrate that there are no protected areas in the deep rear of the Russian state.

Efforts proceeded on Saturday to restore power in the Ukrainian capital, after Russian attacks.

Electricity had been recovered to over 800,000 residents by Saturday and the major power firm stated the main operations to recover electricity was concluded though partial blackouts remained.

Air Defence Efforts and Drone Interceptions

Ukraine's anti-aircraft systems downed or disrupted fifty-four of 78 total Russian drones deployed towards Ukraine in the dark hours, the military said on Saturday.

Russia's defense officials claimed it intercepted 42 enemy drones over its own soil.

Cuba Rejects Accusations of Providing Soldiers to Ukraine

Havana on Saturday rejected US claims it has sent soldiers to participate in the Ukraine war, while stating officials in Havana "do not have exact data about individuals" involved "voluntarily" or "in the military forces of the conflicting parties".

The ministry in the capital announced twenty-six Cuban citizens had been given prison terms to incarceration from five to 14 years for participating as mercenaries since the autumn of 2023 when reports circulated of Cuban nationals being dispatched to the battlefield in the conflict.
