Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee as the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The star player injured himself towards the end of the second quarter in an unintentional collision with team-mate Jones.

The other player came down on the footwear of Jokic, who promptly fell to the court clutching his leg.

The 30-year-old, that is leading the league season in boards and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to suffering the setback.

He will undergo an scan on the following day to evaluate the severity of the injury.

"Right away, he knew he was hurt," stated Denver coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, particularly somebody as talented as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Of course, right now, I'm focused just about Jokic as a person and the frustration of experiencing an event of that nature."
